Fascinating. When I read it I wondered, probably naively, whether LCD and CRT makers should rather make the default backing colour white (or Windows grey) instead of black. I’m not sure how screens work so maybe any other colour would require some energy to illuminate, but if they don’t imagine the power savings!
Except for TFTs of course 🙂
I imagine there are still millions of CRTs in use, but how many new computers (from PC World, Dell and the like) come with them?
It’s true that it only applies to CRT monitors and it kind of puts a downer on the impact of the post but still, it makes you think – especially with respect to TV advertising…
