It appears a recent attack on Irish internet consumers, by some deviant software offerings, is set to bring about the biggest clamp down on telecoms that the country has ever seen. Users of the internet have been targeted with dialler software that changes their internet connection settings causing them to “dial-up” through a premium call service. In one case this caused one Irish business to suffer a Eur12K phone bill. The counter action being taken, validated by ComReg, is to block all direct calls to certain South Pacific countries. A pretty serious action to take and one that is not appreciated by the countries involved. So beware and always check the number on your internet connection dialler before clicking connect. source: Irish Times
