The New Scientist is always a good read and yet again it has the goods on a legitimate virus idea by the FBI. Seemingly the FBI want to install Trojan Horses on peoples machines in an attempt to monitor potential criminals and undesirable activity. The Trojan, codenamed “Magic Lantern” seems to ring a bell with me from some time ago but I’m having trouble thinking where I heard it before. AntiVirus companies are supposedly making allowances for the Trojan Horses not to be detected by their scanners. I can only imagine the legal challenge against something like this. How could you ever trust an AV company who admitted that they didn’t scan for every known virus and more that they openly admit choosing to ignore some based on government requests. The plot thickens and my copy of 1984 has all the details. source: New Scientist
