This summers heat waves have seen record temperatures set right across Europe but more ominously they have also made the effects of global warming more apparent. It used to be the case that the polar ice caps were melting and people maybe didn’t take it so seriously due to the removed distance. However, it now seems that large glaciers in Switzerland are melting to at an alarming rate. At first glance this may not strike home the dangers of it all but having just watched an engineering program on Discovery channel the other night about preventing flooding and curbing rising water levels in some countries, this could be disasterous for neighbouring lowlands. source: CNN.com
